TT LEGEND John McGuinness will be the first to ride Honda’s new RC213V-S in the UK as it makes its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The 23-time TT winner, who set a new lap record of 132.701mph during his Senior win two weeks two weeks ago, will ride the Honda up the famous hill tomorrow morning.

Reigning World Superbike champion Sylvain Guintoli and MotoGP’s Scott Redding are also expected to ride Honda’s road-going RC213V-S during the festival, which runs until Sunday. Casey Stoner is to take part in the hill climb riding the RC213V, the championship-winning MotoGP bike on which it is based. Nine-time former world champion Valentino Rossi is set to make his Goodwood Festival of Speed debut riding his Yamaha YZR-M1..

In a press release from Honda this morning, McGuinness said: ‘Goodwood has become the global focus of all things high-octane. The world will have its eyes on this usually sleepy corner of Sussex at the weekend and it’s an honour to be first up the hill on such an exclusive machine.

‘The RC sums up Honda’s philosophy about learning from racing to make its road bikes the best they can be. I can’t wait to see what it’s got!’

Honda said in the release that the RC213V-S would be produced in limited numbers, going on sale to the public from July 13 via a dedicated website.

Honda finally released official specs for the machine two weeks ago, seven months after it was revealed as a prototype at the Eicma Milan motorcycle show. In road-legal form it makes 159hp, while a track-only kit boosts the figure to 215hp.

It’s expected to cost around £137,000. See our 10 bikes you could buy for the same price.
