Glenn Irwin finished third in the opening race of the British Supersport Championship at Donington Park.

The Kawasaki rider from Carrickfergus came in behind winner Luke Stapleford and Kyle Ryde in Sunday’s sprint race at the English circuit.

The race was red-flagged after a crash and Irwin moved in front on the restart before being hauled in by Stapleford on a Triumph and Dixon.

Jordanstown’s Andy Reid was fifth on his Traction Control Yamaha.

The British Supersport feature race will take place at Donington Park on Monday.

Irwin won five times in last year’s series and finished fourth in the standings.
