’95 XT600 – Starting/Running Problems

Well lads,

Bought an XT about a week ago. Took her out into the fields the first day or 2 no problems – started and ran fine. So I decided to insure it and take it out on the road. Only made it about a mile out the road before she cut out.

All the symptoms of no fuel, namely loss of power and then cuts out. Turned the tap to reserve and tried cranking her no joy. Looked in the tank, plenty of fuel. Pulled the fuel line off the carbs, fuel flowing there too. Pushed it home, tried cranking it again with no luck. Found one of the carb inlet rubber clamps was after coming lose. Tightened that thinking it was a vacuum leak, it cranked a bit better but still struggled to start. Checked HT leads for a spark – there was a orange dullish spark not the blue bright type you’d expect. Pulled the carbs today, they were clean and in good shape and were full of fuel.

Jump started the bike and she eventually fired up. Took it out the road and it died again by the time I got to the first bend. I am now at a loss as to what might be causing it. Checked HT leads again and couldn’t see any spark. Possibly ignition coil pack?

Any ideas?:unsure2:
