Hard to start thumper in cold weather

Hard to start thumper in cold weather

I have a bit of trouble trying to start the Husky in any sort of cool or cold weather. Went out to start her yesterday and she just turned over without any sign of catching.
Got a little electric fan heater and set it up in the shed to blow hot air at the bike while I went and had a brew.
Came back half an hour later and tried to start her again. She back fired after a couple of seconds and then fired up.
Can an increase in a couple of degrees really have that much effect?

What can I do to improve starting in the cold weather?
